Planning perspective
How I’d plan this experience
This is a full-day outing from Jerusalem that combines Bethlehem’s Christian sites with stops around Jericho and the Jordan River. I’d choose it if you want a broad, organized overview and are comfortable moving between destinations in a shared group. The key decision is whether you’ll be satisfied seeing Bethlehem’s main sites even if entry to its famous grottos is not possible; the itinerary makes that uncertainty explicit.
Who this trip suits
The range is the main draw: Bethlehem includes the Church of the Nativity, Shepherds’ Field and Milk Grotto, while the Jericho portion takes in several historical and religious sites. I think it suits travelers keen to cover varied ground in one day more than anyone hoping for a slow, in-depth visit to just one place.
Guiding is provided in Bethlehem, but Jericho is self-guided. If you value context from a guide throughout, that difference matters; if you’re happy to explore the latter part independently, the format may work well.
Set expectations for the Bethlehem grottos
I’d treat the Birth Grotto and St. Jerome’s Grotto as possible extras, not guaranteed highlights. Access can be affected by restoration, queues and special Masses, and the stated caveat applies to both morning and afternoon tours. High-season waits for the Birth Grotto may run one to two hours, so a queue could also affect how much time you have for other stops.
If those grotto visits are your main reason for going, this shared tour is a riskier fit. The tour information suggests discussing a private option for more flexible timing, but even then church access remains a condition.
Plan for a long, structured day
The listed duration is eight to eleven hours, and the Jerusalem pickup is at 7:45 from the David Citadel Hotel, with return to the original pickup location. I’d plan for a substantial day rather than assuming you’ll be back at a precise hour: the schedule is variable, and the tour notes that times may change.
Bring your passport and visa for checkpoint checks. A vehicle change is required, so this is not a single-vehicle journey throughout. The group may include up to 55 travelers; choose it for the convenience of shared transport, not for a private or especially flexible pace.
Budget for Jericho admissions—and note what’s omitted
Some Jericho visits have separate entry fees, including Hisham’s Palace and the Old City of Jericho, so don’t assume every admission is included. I’d also go in knowing there is no stop at the Cable Car or Mount of Temptation: the itinerary describes these as scenic views from Jericho’s old city instead.
That’s a meaningful trade-off if those attractions are priorities. The itinerary concentrates on other stops, so this works better as a wide-ranging highlights day than as a trip built around the cable car or monastery.

During this tour, we won't be making a stop at the Cable Car or Mount of Temptation. Instead, we'll enjoy a scenic view of these attractions from the old city of Jericho. This adjustment was made based on feedback we've received over the past few years, taking into account concerns about the closure of the monastery, the limited options available in the area, including an expensive restaurant, costly shopping, potential tourist traps, and the fact that it costs 60 shekels to go up the mountain.
Zaccheus is one of the most famous and colorful characters in the Gospels, even though he only appears in Luke’s account (19:1-10). In Jericho today, there is a large, old sycamore tree that stands at a major intersection in town.
Tel es-Sultan Visit - Oldest City in the Whole world Jericho - 10 NIS entrance fee
Elijah Spring Visit 10 Mins
